Il s&rsquo;inspire du principe bien connu des mongolfi\u00e8res : l&rsquo;air chaud est plus l\u00e9ger que l&rsquo;air froid et a tendance \u00e0 monter. Seule la fa\u00e7on de chauffer l&rsquo;air est diff\u00e9rente. Le noir est une couleur qui absorbe l&rsquo;\u00e9nergie, aussi bien la lumi\u00e8re que la chaleur. C&rsquo;est cette simple propri\u00e9t\u00e9 d&rsquo;une couleur banale qui permet de chauffer l&rsquo;air.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">En effet, les ballons \u00ab\u00a0bulle d&rsquo;orage\u00a0\u00bb sont fabriqu\u00e9s \u00e0 partir d&rsquo;un plastique noir (style sac poubelle). Il est ensuite expos\u00e9 au Soleil. L&rsquo;enveloppe noire capte les rayons solaires et fait chauffer l&rsquo;air contenu \u00e0 l&rsquo;int\u00e9rieur. Lorsqu&rsquo;il fait beau, cela est tr\u00e8s rapide. Si le temps est couvert, on peut acc\u00e9l\u00e9rer le processus en pla\u00e7ant une source de chaleur (s\u00e8che-cheveux pour les petits ballons) \u00e0 l&rsquo;ouverture en bas du ballon.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Puis&#8230; il n&rsquo;y a plus qu&rsquo;\u00e0 tout l\u00e2cher. Le ballon volera tant qu&rsquo;il sera \u00e9clair\u00e9 par le Soleil. Il peut ainsi effectuer un vol de plus de 10 heures ! Il monte \u00e0 environ 10 000 m d&rsquo;altitude et est ainsi \u00e9clair\u00e9 par le Soleil bien apr\u00e8s que celui-ci soit couch\u00e9 au niveau du sol terrestre. La charge emmen\u00e9e ne d\u00e9pend que du volume d&rsquo;air dans le ballon (et donc de la taille du ballon) et peut \u00eatre tr\u00e8s importante.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Ces ballons ne n\u00e9cessitent aucune autorisation sp\u00e9ciale pour \u00eatre lanc\u00e9s (\u00e0 condition de rester dans des volumes raisonnables). Il n&rsquo;y a pas besoin non plus de mire radar, et le parachute est simplement inutile puisque l&rsquo;enveloppe du ballon n&rsquo;\u00e9clate pas (contrairement aux ballons \u00e0 h\u00e9lium). Il redescend lentement au fur et \u00e0 mesure que l&rsquo;air \u00e0 l&rsquo;int\u00e9rieur du ballon refroidit.
